A lot of cat owners are moving more towards providing homemade diets for their cats and with good reason! The benefits of providing raw or cooked homemade food are numerous but only when complete and balanced so no vital nutrients are missing. That can be challenging when your cat needs to be on a urinary diet, that’s where CompleteMe Urinary Feline from the Veterinary Nutrition Group comes in. The CompleteMe Urinary Feline blend when used correctly will create a balanced, very high moisture urinary diet at home.
Benefits
- Creates very high moisture meals with controlled magnesium, phosphorus and oxalates – A diet high in moisture helps to dilute the urine, reducing the risk of struvite and calcium oxalate crystal and stone formation
- L-theanine and alpha-casozepine to promote calm behaviour – Anxiolytic compounds have been shown to modulate the brain and reduce signs of anxiety
- Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) to reduce bladder discomfort – May help to reduce bladder inflammation and signs of pain relating to bladder discomfort
- N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine (NAG) to support bladder health – NAG is a form of glycosaminoglycan; these are compounds present in the bladder wall which may help to reduce bacterial and crystal adhesion
Minerals matter
- Did you know that urine pH is affected by many components of the diet?
- This includes minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium, and amino acids like methionine and cysteine. We include calcium sulfate as a calcium source in CompleteMe Urinary Feline, because it has a has a neutral to mildly acidifying effect on urine.
- Calcium carbonate, in contrast, is a strong urinary alkalinizer, and calcium chloride acidifies the urine Potassium chloride can be acidifying, whereas potassium citrate is alkalinizing. It’s important for manufacturers of urinary products and diets to be mindful of this complexity.
- A urine pH of 6.2-6.4 is recommended for struvite prevention; for calcium oxalate prevention, the urine pH should not be below 6.25. Interestingly, average urine pH in feral cats eating a natural diet has been found to be 6.37 for males, and 5.97 for females
