What Things Should I Never Feed My Cat
Cats are pretty smart with keeping away from food that is spoiled but when it comes to some things they need a helping hand.
Never Feed
This is by no means an exhaustive list, just some of the common things that should be on your NEVER FEED list
- Alcohol
- Onions, garlic, chives
- Raw fish (it contains an enzyme that destroys thiamine which is an essential nutrient for cats. Lack of thiamine can cause serious neurological problems and lead to convulsions and coma)
- Yeast dough
- Chocolate
- Caffeine
- Potato
- Grapes or raisins
- Sugar or sweetener
- Xylitol (a type of sweetener, toxic to cats)
- Peanut Butter
- Mushrooms
- Citrus Oil
- Macadamia nuts
- Energy drinks
- Dog food
- Cooked bones
What about Tuna?
Cats can be addicted to tuna, whether it’s packed for cats or for humans. Some tuna now and then probably won’t hurt. But a steady diet of tuna prepared for humans can lead to malnutrition because it won’t have all the nutrients a cat needs. And, too much tuna can cause mercury poisoning.
What about Dairy?
There are some foods that may be okay in small amounts or for certain cats. For example, some cats can eat hard cheeses and yogurt, though other milk-based dairy products may be a problem. Many cats are lactose intolerant, however, so be mindful of this before you feed your cat any dairy products.
From our Lawyers!
As we said this is by no means an exhaustive list and we don’t know everything on this subject. So before feeding your cat something new always research it first (Google it or speak with your vet). Alexa can even help! Just say “Alexa, can I feed my cat…”
